Last Night I Dreamed

last night
I dreamed I had wings
but I was too afraid to fly
I stood on top of the tallest building
feeling the wind in my face
and I kept peering over the edge
and looking down into the street
I knew
she was somewhere behind me
I could hear her laughing
and telling me
it was going to be okay
I slowly turned around
I wanted to look at her
because
I wanted to tell her
how much I loved her
but no matter how I tried
I couldn’t find the words

 If I Were a Fish

I’d swim to the bottom
of the ocean
or the lake
or the pond
or whatever body of water
I happened to be living in
I would swim
all the way down to the bottom
where the light
could no longer reach me
and that’s where I would stay
I wouldn’t care about
any of the other fish
even if they came looking for me
what would they know about anything?
anyway?
always swimming around
with their great big eyes
and their goofy-looking mouths

James Babbs likes the night life but he doesn’t like to boogie.  James has written hundreds of poems and a few short stories over the years and has even had a few of them published.  More recently James has been trying his hand at writing Haiku with some modest success.  If you Google him you might just find something interesting.
